The glazes and colours are the result of thousands of tests and years of work, and all pattern and decoration is individually hand painted or modelled. My shapes consist in stylised classic pottery forms. Decorative glazes like crackle, smoke, matte or flambé on clean shapes lend a modern edge to the work. Such glazes were popular in ancient China and the Far East, but also enjoyed a great revival in the Art Deco movement. In 2002 I have rediscovered the traditional Delft painting technique, which marked the beginning of my potter's career at my grandparent's studio. It all started with the idea to cover my house with hand made painted tiles. I had great fun creating whimsical walls and floors, and when there were no surface left, started to paint eclectic variations of pattern and text on my basic pottery shapes. Now that my home is totally full, I started to fill the homes of others. Perhaps yours will be next?
